Phase two of “Back to Notation”

creating sort of a mesh according to the finger print the “basher” left on the clay.. different levels of gray representing deeper insertion of the elements into the solid. This phase can give one an idea of different happening in sound, when action is taking place, where something is changing or when something stops from happening.

(Not finished of course, I have four more to go)

Back to Notation

First Phase

Thinking of a way to create a language from the sound analysis I thought that all terms I came up with (“Thump”, “Putting Down”, “Soak”, “Coating”, “Sizzle”, “Forking” and “A Barking Dog”) must be put through the same experiment; Listening to the sound, each noise at a time, while holding a schnitzel basher (??) and hitting a clay square during the listening according to volume and time. (The loudest the sound the strongest the hit)

2nd presentation poster

After creating a certain typography in the previous Etude(#1), as a representation of sound, I’ve decided to develop a second phase of transforming the chosen typography into a solid three dimensional element.
Based on a scale of disturbance (It started with a sound which is extremely unpleasing to hear, evolved into a word which it’s typography not very likeable to the eye and now a solid with a topography not so smooth to touch).
Noise or sounde can exist only when one knows what silence is, the same happens with the sense of touch; one must be familiar with a smooth straight surfac to acknowledge the bumps and holes of a different surface. Based on this and my scale of disturbance I’ve created a three dimensional shape, embeded with the typography from the previous Etude and deformed it’s surface.
Slicing the solid into seven equal pieces (according to new seven categories I defined) gave me the idea of typography as an influence on topography; each definition is represented by a “slice of the shape, rating the “disturbance” of the typography by the touch of topography.
